About Ballyheigue

The miles sandy blue flag beach in Ballyheigue is a favourite for visitors and locals. With plenty of choice of water-sports on the beach and bay suitable for windsurfing and kite-surfing with some good surfing areas not too far away. If you are into fishing the you have a choice of beach, rock or pier fishing. From the marina at Fenit to the rocks high above the sea on the Kerry Head. How much better can you get to catch your own dinner and eat it within the hour. Look out for the "break" of Mackerel when the shoals arrive close to the rocks and piers.

If its golf you're after then enjoy the perfect 9 hole at Ballyheigue Castle or take your choice of a range of first class courses a short drive away including golfing at the 18-hole Arnold Palmer designed course. For the walkers then exit the cottage and decide if you want to turn right for some dedicated countryside walkways or left to the village for miles of beach, sea and fresh air. Ballyheigue is a good base for visiting other parts of Kerry. Tralee is 10 miles away and Killarney and Dingle are about an hours drive. I can highly recommend greyhound racing in Tralee for a super night of fun for all the family.

Tralee is the nearest large town located just 10 miles away. Here you will find the Aquadome, the Tralee Mediaeval Exhibition, Museum, National Folk Theatre, Blennerville Windmill, and a Steam Train. The world famous Rose of Tralee Festival and Tralee Horse Races take place in late August each year.

Ardfert Cathedral. Only 5 miles away you will find Ardfert 13th century Cathedral. It incorporates remnants of an older, existing, 11th century church. You will also see the battlements are of a later 15th century addition. It is a fine example of an Irish medieval cathedral.
